I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and it first felt as if someone had stolen my identity. Initially, all my family and I expected was to have the mass removed from my breast. But further testing had revealed that I had to go through chemotherapy and radiation to prevent a more aggressive cancer from occurring.

What lies ahead is a trial of faith and courage, but we are surviving together as a family. My cancer diagnosis brought us closer as my lifestyle’s changed. Although cancer is such a dreaded disease, it taught us all to appreciate things more. It’s ironic that I’ve spent my whole life complaining about my hair; something I took for granted. I’d love the option for a bad hair day now! We need to appreciate what we have while we have it. I’m not sure where my future lies ahead, but no one does! If you, a family member, or a friend is currently battling cancer, just try to remain positive and lean on others for support. Good luck with this speed bump in your life! -Jackie, NY
