Janette's story on mental health
I’ve been afraid to speak about my depression for years. On the outside I was always making jokes and appeared so happy. On the inside, I felt alone, and so full of self-doubt and I wasn’t exactly sure why. When my sister passed away, my depression got so bad that I had to start talking about it as I felt as though it was eating me alive.
Once I started getting honest and more open with my negative, depressive thoughts, I started to feel better. I found that the more I confided in family, the better I felt, and the more I realized that there were others that struggled with depression as well.
We can be the hero in our own stories.
Mental illness can make us feel alone, so realizing that this world is full of stories and struggles is unifying. Don’t be afraid to share yours. -Janette, OH
